Playa Blanca Beaches

Playa Blanca may be small but it has a grand total of three beaches of its own, and you'll also find the peaceful beaches of the Papagayo nature reserve just along the coast. If you like to be close to the main shops and restaurants, you'll feel at home relaxing on Playa Blanca itself, whose white sands gave the resort its name.

This is the central beach and it has a Blue Flag for cleanliness, a scuba diving school and a gentle slope into the sea, so it's very popular.

Over on pretty Playa Flamingo, you'll find calm waters protected by a breakwater. Perfect for paddling and snorkelling amongst the little fish, Playa Flamingo is the place to take the kids.

But if water sports are more your thing, head to Playa Dorada, where the softest sands on the island shelve steeply into the sea. You can hire sun loungers and parasols on all three of Playa Blanca's beaches, which are linked by the promenade that stretches the whole length of the resort; almost the whole way to Papagayo National Park, in fact.

And that's the place to go when you're in the mood to escape to your own little piece of paradise, as the isolated beaches on the Papagayo peninsula are completely unspoilt.
